Switzerland Basel. Canton gold 4 Ducats 1740 MS63 PCGS,

Switzerland
Basel. Canton gold 4 Ducats 1740 MS63 PCGS, Fr-63, HMZ-2-102c (silver type). 13.80gm. By Johann Jakob Handmann. A magnificent gold-striking, to the weight of 4 ducats, of the one-year "City View" silver 1/4 Talers. Also struck in a 3 and 5 Ducat weight, the present type ranks between those other two in rarity. With the combination of a grand winged Basilisk on one face, and an 18th century view of Basel bordering the Rhine river on the other, the visual appeal of this piece from the design alone is astounding. Preservation-wise, this selection appears almost as-struck; with beaming Prooflike resplendence and an untoned yellow-gold luminance. A Swiss gold emission that only appears at auction once every few years, and is fiercely contested each time. We expect the same action from this representative that is the lone occupant in the PCGS census.
