Alexander II silver Death Medal 1881 MS60 NGC, by V. Alexeev and A. Griliches, Diakov-881.1 (R2), Smirnov-830, 76mm. Obv. Portrait of Alexander II right, with palm branch and all-seeing eye above. Rev. Crowned figure representing Russia puts wreath on the coffin of Alexander while angel grieves in the background. A stunning tribute to the fallen Tsar, with bold relief and superb details. The fields are reflective and light contact marks are noted. Alexander II's reign was turbulent, with several assassination attempts, all of which failed until the second of two attempts, on March 13, 1881, succeeded.
