Humphrey, December 1st 1809, etching with bright contemporary hand-colouring, slight dust soiling to the margins, upper margin strengthened on verso, 270 x 375 mm QTY: (1) NOTE: BM 11338. A satire on the approaching election for the Chancellorship of Oxford University. Grenville, dressed as a cardinal, heads a small group processing towards the Devil. Behind Grenville walks the Pope, and he holds up Grenville's robe. Napoleon crouches behind the Pope, holding on to his robes and hiding under his mantle. Sycofantic bishops bow low to the assembled group sweeping the ground with their mitres.
