A Louis XV vari-coloured gold and enamelled oval snuff box Jean-Joseph Barrière, Paris 1772, with the cow export discharge mark, further later French control marks and various incuse stamped numbers The cover with an applied central enamelled plaque of 'The Triumph of Love over Painting,' in an engraved gold frame within a chased yellow gold laurel leaf border surmounted by a mask head, flanked by panels of translucent grey enamel over wavy engine-turning, within a border of alternating turquoise enamelled ovolos and chased yellow gold fruiting vines, the rim with similar alternating ovolos and chased decoration, the sides with panels of grey enamel separated by elaborate pilasters of putti playing pipes and flutes above a ribbon-tied laurel band, similar decoration to the base, length 8cm , weight 182.8gms .
